Geary County Marriage License
New Kansas marriage licenses are handled online. The 8th Judicial District marriage license page states that applicants can no longer get a marriage license by going into a District Court Clerk's office. A couple may choose Geary County as the processing county in the electronic Kansas Judicial Branch application, but the application itself is not a counter service at the Geary County Courthouse.
The online process asks for an email address, specific details for each person, and an online payment method. Kansas adds a three-day waiting period after the application. A Monday application issues the following Thursday, a Tuesday application issues the following Friday, and a Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday application issues the following Monday. The 8th Judicial District also warns that it can take up to two weeks from the application date to receive the license.
The license is valid for six months from the date issued. After the ceremony, the completed license must be returned to the issuing court within 10 days. Couples may marry anywhere in Kansas after issuance, even if Geary County was selected as the processing county.

Search Geary County Marriage Records
A recent Geary County marriage license begins in the online Kansas application system. A certified marriage certificate, however, is ordered from KDHE after the marriage is returned and indexed. The 8th Judicial District instructs couples to wait at least two weeks after the ceremony before seeking a certified copy from KDHE Office of Vital Statistics.
KDHE lists walk-in service at the Office of Vital Statistics from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with a certified copy fee of $20 each. KDHE also lists internet ordering through VitalChek. If a record is not easy to locate, the walk-in estimate can take longer than the normal 15 to 20 minutes.
For older family-history work, the Geary County Historical Museum has genealogical records and archives. It is useful for research, but it is not the office that issues certified Kansas marriage certificates.
Search Geary County Divorce Records
Divorce case files are District Court records. Public divorce docket information and available documents may be searched through Kansas Judicial Branch CaseSearch or requested from Geary County District Court when the case is public and the document is not online. Case files can include petitions, responses, orders, hearing entries, and the final decree, subject to redaction or sealing.
